Russian Jawas go hard

Once more, screaming into the void. x’D I know there’s still some folks out there waiting for me to get off my hind end and start posting the next part of the Reconciliation-verse, but as I’ve said before, I need to have more of it ready before I start posting. On the plus side, we have bonus: Other points of view!

I’ve got two “interlude” pieces planned for the fic, so… it should be about eight chapters. The first interlude has some interesting gems in it, such as sadpile!Madara and seriouslyconcerned!Hashirama. The muses have spoken, and ah, Mito and Killer Jade do not get along. x’D

Anyway, I’m just woolgathering. The third POV is not cooperating, and I need to finish that before I can get back to Madara dealing with shit. And Tobirama, doing his ah… thing. (Time to try to write again, and hopefully not just sit there navel-gazing as I do…)

geekandmisandry:

Never mistake my casual dismal of children under the “I don’t like kids” banner to mean I don’t care for their welfare.

“I don’t like kids” means I don’t feel a particular affinity to children in a society that CONSTANTLY pushes the ideas of motherhood and maternity at me, trying to elicit socially appropriate responses from me regardless of how I feel about the situation. It means I don’t want the incredible responsibilities associated with child care and I do not desire to spend time with children.

But I will not tolerate abuse of children. Hitting, insulting, yelling and being dismissive of the needs of children are all forms of abusive and callous behaviour.

You don’t get to disrespect and abuse people just because they haven’t learned how to stand up to you and children at least deserve your basic fucking respect.

I may not love children, but if you treat children badly then I fucking hate you.

seriously sit and try to think about how ridiculous naruto’s backstory is. The 3rd didn’t give a shit and just left him money sometimes and when he’s like ‘why don’t I have parents?’ instead of just being like ‘kid they died’ he goes ‘sTOP ASKING QUESTIONS!!’ also where was jiraya?? hello? your student had a kid and then he died and they named the kid after your shitty oc and you’re not even going to help take care of it?? even until he can maybe take care of himself?? WHERE is the ninja orphanage. WHO was checking up on naruto in his tiny apartment that they put him in when he was like 5 years old. Who let Sasuke go and live in the house his family was murdered in.

Why did a big chunk of the villagers believe that Naruto was literally Kurama when fuinjutsu were probably a big chunk of the curriculum at the ninja academy that they all had to go to

The jinchūriki

are later shown to be pretty important to the political climate between the villages – a structure instituted by the First Hokage himself, no less – so why is Konoha seemingly full of people who just straight-up have no clue what they are?

Also, does the ninja academy straight up just not teach history? Did an entire generation of people just sorta forget who the Fourth Hokage was? Did nobody ever, not once, remark to anybody else that Naruto looks a lot like two exceedingly famous people who just so happened to die on the day he was born?

The ninja academy teaches watered-down history in order to “prevent grudges” and “preserve the peace”. Even in the modern era, teachers don’t discuss real history, as we can see from the fact that Sarada and Chocho don’t recognize Orochimaru. There is no version of Konoha’s history that makes sense without him. Orochimaru is responsible for Sunagakure’s invasion, the Third’s death, Sunagakure’s alliance (inspired by his kidnapping of Sasuke), resurrecting the Kage to fight in the war, the creation of Yamato (an essential part of the Ten-Tails), etc.

I’d like to think Shino is a good teacher who is forced to follow tradition. Considering his propensity for grudges, it’s out-of-character for him to not to mention all of Orochimaru’s crimes. I’d say it’s almost certain that the Academy curriculum is influenced by higher powers…or Kishimoto didn’t put a lot of thought into his world-building. That is also possible.

Honestly the underlying theme of forgetting/outright erasing history in the Naruto universe is one of the more disturbing ones in the setting. When you realize how much history is lost for one reason or another (no one records anything, and if they do records are usually kept secret within one’s clan, survivors don’t pass on their experiences to others, other witnesses just die off) it paints this weird picture where the shinobi don’t know their own pasts.

I feel like this is highlighted when it comes to the shinobi wars. We the readers know so little about them, but like… do the characters themselves know much more than we do? Does anyone who didn’t live through it even know why the second or first wars were started?

Weekly reminder that the plot holes in Naruto are big enough to drive a truck into

The plot holes in Naruto are big enough to drop an aircraft carrier into, and it’ll still have plenty of room to float. Possibly enough to do maneuvers.

I just don’t understand where this concept of ‘fake geek girls’ came from. Like, AT ALL.

Cus when I look for fandom related stuff like 90% of the fan art and the fanfiction and the meta, zines, comics, etc. Like 90% of the shit that I’ve seen is created by women & girls.

And all that stuff take’s a lot of work and research and critical analysis and staring at reference photos for hours.

We are literally the most well versed and invested group in the fandom. So, like, What the fuck boys? You mad you can’t keep up?

I saw an argument, and I can’t find it now, but it totally made sense, that there’s a gender split in fandom. Male fandom tends to be a curator fandom; male fandom collects, organizes, and memorizes facts and figures. Male fandom tends to be KEEPERS of the canon; the fandom places great weight on those who have the biggest collection, the deepest knowledge of obscure subjects, the first appearances, creators, character interactions.

Female fandom is creative. Females create fanart, cosplay, fanwritings. Female fandom ALTERS canon, for the simple reason that canon does not serve female fandom. In order for it to fit the ‘outsider’ (female, queer, POC), the canon must be attacked and rebuilt, and that takes creation.

“Male” fandom devalues this contribution to fandom, because it is not the ‘right’ kind of fandom. “Girls only cosplay for attention, they’re not REAL fans!” “Fanfiction is full of stupid Mary Sues, girls only do it so they can make out with the main character!” “I, a male artist, have done this pin-up work and can put it in my portfolio! You, a female artist, have drawn stupid fanart, and it’s not appropriate to use as a professional reference!”

In the mind of people who decry the ‘fake geek girl,’ this fandom is not as worthy. It damages, or in their mind, destroys the canon. What is the point of memorizing every possible romantic entanglement of heterosexual white Danny Rand if someone turns around and creates a fanwork depicting him as a bisexual female of Asian descent (thus subverting Rand’s creepy ‘white savior’ origins)? When Danny Rand becomes Dani Rand, their power is lessened. What is important to them ceases to be the focus of the discussion. Creation and curatorship can work in tandom, but typically, in fandom, they are on opposite poles.

This is not to say that there aren’t brilliant male cosplayers or smashing female trivia experts, this is to say that the need of the individual fan is met with opposing concepts: In order for me to find myself in comics, I need to make that space for myself, and that is a creative force. Het white cis males are more likely to do anything possible to defend and preserve the canon because the canon is built to cater to them.

This is genuinely the best post I have ever read.

Comment bolded by me because effing important that’s why.

This.

This throws a whole new light on the whole “diversity is PC garbage, get out of our industry” perspective. If stuff not tailored to the curators becomes canon, if their comfort space shrinks and the comfort space of different demographics of curators grows, no wonder they feel uncomfortable just doing what they’ve always done and can’t pinpoint why.

Wow, this is such a great commentary, thank you guys!
