For any of you who are writing ‘across the pond’-here is a little guide I put together of some common differences between British and American English!

Also for all of us non-native speakers who don’t know which fucking English we’re even using

swedes = rutabaga

rubbers = erasers

as it comes = without any alterations (”I’d like this sandwich on the menu, please.” “As it comes?”)

can I have = can I get

put out the bins = take out the trash

dummy = pacifier

nappy = diaper (and then nappy bag = diaper bag)

bag/handbag = purse

purse = wallet (specifically for “women’s” accessories)

telly = tv

drawing pins = thumbtacks

“It’s a good job…” = “It’s a good thing…”

chemist = drugstore

Don’t start the soft drink discourse again @universalfanfic , you know I’ll find proof 😂😂😂😂

@gracieinanovel OK but “fizzy drink???” That just sounds like some Doctor Who silliness and you KNOW IT.

Some of the American ones are either wrong, or weird because we use both terms. Like Make-up. Most Americans won’t call it cosmetics – unless we’re being technical. Street cars aren’t really a thing anymore, except in certain areas because big business drove them out. We also have tights – the difference between tights and pantyhose is that pantyhose are sheer. I don’t know about the UK, but soda is called different things in different parts of the country. In the region I’m currently in, we usually call it soda, but if you’re in the eastern US, they often say pop. And because my grandma came from the middle of the US, we called it soda pop when I was growing up. We also say bill often enough when eating out: “Who’s footing the bill?” or we ask for the check. Language is complicated, especially spanning so many regions.

I still find the idea of Madara as the Dragonborn utterly hilarious. And I still need to write it.

How’s this for a start?

After the initial introduction, Madara found that Skyrim wasn’t so bad. Sure, the Imperial presence was a bit much, the Thalmor were even more infuriating than usual, the land was cold and inhospitable, not to mention that he nearly suffered execution and being eaten by a dragon in the same day – his very first day in the country. It was still better than home.

Then there was the elf. What kind of elf Tobirama was, Madara hadn’t yet ascertained. He lacked the golden hue of the Altmer, and the dark skin of the Dunmer. Logically, that left only the Bosmer, but…

He fell in with the elf after Helgen, and sometimes, it felt a little like babysitting. The damned elf seemed to get into everything. Sometimes, it was entertaining. Other times, it led them into an abandoned mine full of bandits. And for all Tobirama could be insanely quiet, he wasn’t much for sneaking.

I’m at 5 what about you?

8 hehehe

I’m not even sure how I’m supposed to count these because some of these things I do eat but rarely and others I don’t like unless they are prepared a very specific way.

Some of these I can’t have because I’m allergic.

I’m at 22. Picky AF.

Only got 7

3 confirmed. I’ve never tried snails before so I dont know.

Depending on the situation there would be more. Like, I love blue cheese crumbles but hate the dressing. I’ll only eat yogurt mixed in something (or if it’s made from goats milk but that’s super rare). I’ll eat liver if it’s been cooked right but, like, liver and onions is a no.

12. Would be 11 because I enjoy it, but it upsets my stomach so I don’t eat it.

15, because I have a strong hate on for a lot of condiments and shellfish. So yeah, I’m pretty picky.

Hehe. I forgot to do it until super late again.

Six dogs, four elk (one of whom I’m pretty sure was a bull whose horns recently fell off, and he didn’t like us being near his cows), three cats and one dumbass deer.

Replaying Alice: The Madness Returns, and now that I’m on a proper TV I’m seeing creepy shit at the orphanage. All the kids are wearing numbers. Which… Yeaaaah. Given what I know about the game…
